Key Highlights
Description
Surgident GBR Bone Tacs are precision-engineered titanium fixation pins designed to stabilize barrier membranes and bone grafts during Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) procedures. Reliable membrane fixation is critical to GBR success — any micromovement of the barrier compromises bone formation and exposes the graft to soft tissue invasion. These bone tacks deliver firm, immediate fixation of resorbable and non-resorbable membranes to the underlying bone, holding the graft material in place undisturbed during the healing period. The sharp self-tapping tip allows easy insertion without pre-drilling in most native bone, while the broad anodized head distributes pressure evenly across the membrane without tearing. Available in two lengths — 3.5 mm for thin cortical plates and limited bone height, and 5 mm for thicker cortical anchorage — the range covers maxillary, mandibular, and ridge augmentation scenarios. Supplied in a pack of 5.
Advantages:
- Effectively secure membranes
- Precise and predictable results
- Simplifies the membrane fixation process
- Special thread for more stability
- Easy to used single-handed

Directions for Use
Surgical Preparation
- Complete flap elevation and expose the bone defect requiring augmentation
- Place the bone graft material into the defect following the planned GBR protocol
- Trim and adapt the chosen barrier membrane to cover the graft with appropriate extension beyond the defect margins
Bone Tack Selection
- Assess the cortical bone thickness at the planned fixation sites
- Select 3.5 mm tacks for thin cortical plates and 5 mm tacks for thicker cortical anchorage
- Plan 2 to 4 tack positions distributed around the membrane periphery for stable fixation
Tack Insertion
- Position the membrane over the graft and stabilize it at the first fixation point
- Load the bone tack into the compatible applicator or driver
- Place the tack perpendicular to the bone surface at the planned fixation point
- Apply firm, controlled axial pressure to drive the self-tapping tip into the cortex
- Insert until the tack head sits flush against the membrane with even pressure
- Repeat at each planned fixation point around the membrane periphery
Verification
- Confirm the membrane is fully stabilized with no movement at the fixation points
- Verify the bone graft remains contained beneath the membrane without exposure
- Inspect for any membrane tearing or loose tack engagement before flap closure
Flap Closure and Healing
- Close the soft tissue flap with tension-free primary closure over the membrane
- Suture per the planned protocol and provide post-operative instructions
- Allow the recommended GBR healing period before the next surgical phase
Tack Removal at Re-Entry
- At the re-entry appointment, expose the augmented site with a flap reflection
- Locate the bone tacks and remove them using the appropriate removal driver
- Proceed with implant placement or further prosthetic planning as per the case
