Directions for Use

Pre-Surgical Setup

• Open the sterilized Comfix Kit tray and verify all components are present
• Confirm the case plan and choose appropriate bone tac size (3.5 mm or 5.0 mm) for the cortical bone available
• Prepare the graft material and barrier membrane or titanium mesh ahead of fixation

Site Preparation

• Complete flap elevation and expose the defect requiring augmentation
• Place the bone graft material and trim the barrier or mesh to cover the defect with appropriate margin
• Identify the bone tack fixation positions around the periphery of the membrane or mesh

Pilot Drilling (When Required)

• For dense cortical bone, select the appropriate pilot drill (Ø1.2, Ø1.4, or Ø1.8 mm)
• Use the pilot drill to create a small guide hole at each planned fixation point
• Use the NLBC Ø5.0 mm drill with stopper when preparing wider fixation sites for screws
• Irrigate copiously with saline during all drilling steps

Bone Tac Insertion

• Pick up a bone tac from the corresponding 3.5 mm (red) or 5.0 mm (blue) organiser using the tap applicator
• Position the tac perpendicular to the bone at the planned fixation point through the membrane
• Apply controlled mallet impulses to drive the self-tapping tip securely into the cortex
• Continue until the tac head sits flush against the membrane with even pressure distribution
• Repeat at each planned fixation point until the membrane is fully stabilized

Flap Closure

• Verify all tacks are seated firmly with no membrane movement
• Close the soft tissue flap with tension-free primary closure over the fixed membrane
• Suture per the planned protocol and deliver post-operative instructions

Tac Removal at Re-Entry

• At the re-entry appointment, expose the augmented site with a flap reflection
• Select the appropriate tac remover driver length (L 20, 26, or 52 mm) based on access
• Engage and unscrew each tack carefully without damaging the newly formed bone
• Proceed with implant placement or further prosthetic planning as per the case

Post Use Care

• Return all instruments to their designated positions in the tray after the procedure
• Clean each instrument thoroughly and inspect for damage before sterilization
• Sterilize the complete kit via autoclave following the recommended protocol
• Store the sterilized kit in a clean dry environment ready for the next case
