Description

The Woodpecker Fi-P Plus is a cordless heated obturation pen designed for the down-pack stage of warm vertical condensation. Using interchangeable Work Tips that heat to the selected working temperature, it softens and compacts the master gutta percha cone in the apical third of the root canal, cutting and pressurizing the gutta percha for a dense three-dimensional apical seal. Seven precisely controlled working temperatures from 90°C to 250°C allow the clinician to fine-tune heating performance based on case requirements, while built-in safety features automatically shut down the device after 10 minutes of inactivity. The cordless ergonomic design supports both left- and right-handed operators thanks to a rotatable display, and the dual-button control allows intuitive temperature selection and heating activation. Paired with a separate backfill device, the Fi-P Plus completes a full warm vertical condensation workflow.

Directions for Use

Setup and Charging

• Connect the power adapter to the charging base and to the mains power outlet
• Place the Fi-P Plus handpiece onto the charging base in the correct orientation
• Charge for at least 3 hours before first use, then approximately 2.5 hours for subsequent recharges
• Disinfect and install the appropriate Work Tip following the hexagonal red arrow alignment
• Install the Work Tip Protector to prevent accidental scalding during operation

Preparation

• Complete root canal shaping, cleaning, and disinfection following standard endodontic protocol
• Dry the canal thoroughly with paper points before beginning obturation
• Fit and verify a master gutta percha cone radiographically
• Apply sealer to the canal walls as per the obturation protocol

Device Operation

• Long-press the ON/OFF button for about 1 second to power on the device
• Press the ON/OFF button briefly to cycle through preset temperatures (90°C to 250°C)
• Select the appropriate working temperature for the case and Work Tip used
• Confirm the orientation of the display matches your dominant hand

Apical Down-Pack

• Lightly press the heating button to heat the Work Tip to the preset temperature
• Insert the heated tip into the coronal portion of the master gutta percha cone
• Cut and remove the coronal gutta percha while softening the apical portion
• Use a hand plugger to compact the softened apical gutta percha against the canal walls
• Maintain continuous heating no longer than 4 seconds at a time to avoid scalding
• Verify the apical seal is dense before proceeding to backfill the rest of the canal

Post Use Care

• Allow the device to cool before placing it back on the charging base
• Remove the Work Tip and clean, disinfect, and sterilize it as per the manual’s Chapter 9 protocol
• Do not polish the Work Tip — polishing damages the heating surface
• Wipe the handpiece body with the recommended surface disinfectant between patients
