Key Highlights

Fan-shaped NiTi bristle brush for cleaning peri-implant surfaces with effective access to deep pockets

Description

The Surgident Implant Brush (ICB-2) is a specialized rotary instrument designed for the mechanical debridement and decontamination of peri-implant surfaces during the management of peri-implantitis. Built with a high-quality stainless steel handle and fan-shaped bristles made from Nickel Titanium (NiTi), the brush combines durability with the flexibility needed to reach into deep peri-implant pockets and around exposed implant threads without damaging the titanium surface. The unique NiTi bristle composition disrupts and removes biofilm, plaque, and granulation tissue more effectively than conventional cleaning tools while remaining gentle on implant geometry. Engineered for use at 500 to 1200 RPM in a standard contra-angle handpiece, it integrates smoothly into both non-surgical and surgical peri-implantitis protocols. With a total length of 38.0 mm and a brush diameter of 3.0 mm, the ICB-2 delivers controlled access to anterior and posterior implant sites alike.

Directions for Use

Preparation

  • Confirm the patient is diagnosed with peri-implant mucositis or peri-implantitis requiring mechanical debridement
  • Sterilize the ICB-2 brush via autoclave before clinical use
  • Connect the brush to a compatible contra-angle handpiece

Clinical Setup

  • Achieve adequate local anesthesia at the peri-implant site if required
  • Identify the affected implant and the depth of peri-implant pocket through clinical and radiographic assessment
  • For surgical access cases, complete flap elevation to expose the implant surface

Debridement Procedure

  • Set the contra-angle handpiece to a rotation speed within the 500 to 1200 RPM range
  • Apply copious saline irrigation throughout the brushing procedure
  • Insert the brush head into the peri-implant pocket or against the exposed implant surface
  • Use gentle controlled brushing strokes along the implant threads and abutment surfaces
  • Allow the fan-shaped NiTi bristles to disrupt and remove biofilm, plaque, and granulation tissue
  • Move systematically around all surfaces of the implant for complete coverage

Adjunctive Therapy

  • Combine mechanical brushing with chemical decontamination as per the case protocol
  • Use chlorhexidine, saline, or other recommended antiseptic irrigation during and after debridement
  • Consider laser decontamination, air polishing, or other adjunctive therapies as planned

Closure and Recall

  • For surgical cases, irrigate the site thoroughly and close the flap with appropriate sutures
  • For non-surgical cases, provide post-operative instructions and home care guidance
  • Schedule follow-up recall to monitor peri-implant tissue response and pocket reduction

Post Use Care

  • Clean the brush thoroughly after the procedure to remove biological debris from the NiTi bristles
  • Inspect the bristles for deformation, wear, or splaying that would compromise effectiveness
  • Replace the brush when bristles lose their fan shape or appear worn
  • Sterilize via autoclave following the standard surgical instrument protocol
  • Store the sterilized brush in a clean dry environment ready for the next case
