Rongeurs are surgical instruments used to trim, contour, and remove bone after teeth extractions. Rongeurs have a spring mechanism between the handles and a sharpened working end. A rongeur is a heavy-duty instrument with a sharp-edged scoop-shaped tip, used for gouging to the bone. It can be used to open a window in bone, in order to access underneath tissues.
