Ensure sterilization
- Confirm the elevator is properly cleaned and autoclaved before the procedure.
Select the appropriate elevator
- Choose the Spade, Straight, Upper Bend, or Lower Bend based on the tooth position and access required.
Gain initial access
- Gently insert the working tip into the periodontal ligament space along the tooth surface while maintaining proper finger rest.
Sever the periodontal ligament
- Advance apically with controlled pressure to cut the ligament fibers and create initial mobility.
Luxate the tooth
- Use a slow rotational or wheel-and-axle motion to expand the socket and loosen the tooth. Avoid excessive force.
Mallet-assisted use (if required)
- In dense bone or retained roots, apply light, controlled mallet taps for precise and centered force.
Proceed to extraction
- Once adequate mobility is achieved, remove the tooth using extraction forceps.
Post-use protocol
- Clean, disinfect, and sterilize the instrument for the next use.
