Description

Waldent Periosteal Elevator Molt No.9 is Double – Ended Instrument with one rounded, blunted end & other end is sharp-pointed. The blunt end is Spoon – Shaped. The rounded edge of the Molt 9 periosteal elevator minimises the tearing of tissue when lifting the gum flap. The sharp end makes the initial lifting of the flap easier. The pointed end is used in prying motion for the elevation of the flap.

Directions for Use

• Preparation: Ensure the instrument is properly sterilized according to standard sterilization protocols before use. Verify the integrity of the instrument to ensure it is free from damage.

• Positioning and Approach: Identify the area where mucoperiosteum elevation is required. Position the patient comfortably and ensure adequate lighting and visibility of the surgical site.

• Selection of End: Determine which end of the Molt No.9 periosteal elevator is appropriate for the initial procedure:

  • Use the sharp-pointed end for making the initial incision or for precise lifting of the mucoperiosteum flap. Insert the sharp end gently under the gingival tissue and use a prying motion to lift the flap away from the bone.
  • Alternatively, use the rounded, blunted end (spoon-shaped) for cases where a more gentle approach is needed. This end minimizes tissue tearing when lifting the gum flap and can be effective in raising gingival tissue at the cervical region for tooth extraction.

• Technique:

  • For initial lifting with the sharp-pointed end: Insert the sharp end under the gingival margin and apply gentle pressure in a prying motion to elevate the flap gradually. Take care to avoid excessive force to prevent tissue damage.
  • For gentle elevation with the spoon-shaped end: Insert the rounded, blunted end under the gingival tissue at the desired location. Use a rocking or sweeping motion to lift the mucoperiosteum away from the bone, ensuring smooth and controlled elevation.

• Reflecting the Flap: Once the mucoperiosteum is sufficiently elevated, use the periosteal elevator to reflect the flap away from the bone surface. This helps maintain tissue integrity and prevents crushing of the flap against the underlying bone.

• Post-Procedure Care: After completing the procedure, carefully clean and sterilize the instrument again. Dispose of any disposable components as per clinical waste management guidelines.

• Monitoring and Follow-Up: Monitor the patient post-procedure for any signs of discomfort or complications. Provide appropriate post-operative instructions and follow-up care as necessary.
