Specialized diamond bur kit for cutting sectioning and adjusting ceramic restorations including zirconia and PFM

Description

The NewDiamond Ceramic Restoration FG Airotor Bur Kit (FG-107) is a specialized 10-bur diamond system engineered specifically for the demanding task of cutting, sectioning, and adjusting existing ceramic restorations — including zirconia, lithium disilicate, porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM), and all-ceramic crowns. Unlike general preparation kits, the FG-107 features ceramic-specific diamond bur profiles (GEX and EX series) with aggressive cutting geometry designed to slice through hard ceramic materials cleanly without shattering the restoration or damaging the underlying tooth. The kit combines these ceramic-cutting diamonds with round and chamfer burs for post-removal access, margin refinement, and finishing procedures. Ideal for prosthodontic and restorative dentists who regularly remove or adjust existing ceramic work — whether for restoration replacement, endodontic access through crowns, or intraoral ceramic recontouring. Supplied in an organised stand with FG shanks for standard airotor use.

Key Features

  • Purpose-built diamond bur kit for cutting and sectioning ceramic restorations
  • Ceramic-specific GEX and EX series diamonds engineered for hard ceramic materials
  • Handles zirconia, lithium disilicate, PFM, and all-ceramic restoration materials
  • Round and chamfer burs support post-removal access and margin refinement
  • Colour-coded grit bands enable instant chairside identification
  • Premium diamond coating delivers aggressive controlled cutting without ceramic shattering
  • FG (Friction Grip) shanks compatible with standard high-speed airotor handpieces
  • Organised black stand keeps burs ready for chairside crown-removal and adjustment procedures

Directions for Use

Pre-Treatment Preparation

  • Sterilize the burs and stand via autoclave before clinical use
  • Verify each bur’s diamond coating is intact and undamaged
  • Achieve adequate local anesthesia and place rubber dam for airway protection
  • Confirm the ceramic material type (zirconia, lithium disilicate, PFM) to plan the cutting approach
  • Take pre-operative radiographs to assess underlying tooth structure and cement thickness

Ceramic Crown Sectioning

  • Use the GEX-27 or GEX-28 ceramic cutting diamond to create the initial groove on the crown’s occlusal or buccal surface
  • Cut through the ceramic in a controlled manner with copious water spray to prevent thermal damage and ceramic shattering
  • Progress the cut through the full thickness of the ceramic — feel for the change in resistance as the bur reaches the underlying cement or tooth
  • For PFM crowns, prepare to encounter the metal substructure — a specific metal-cutting bur may be needed

Gross Ceramic Reduction

  • Use the EX-24 extra coarse diamond for aggressive reduction of ceramic bulk when cutting a full crown apart
  • Apply controlled pressure with continuous water spray
  • Progress through the ceramic in a single planned cutting line to avoid excessive tooth structure removal

Crown Removal Access

  • Once the ceramic is fully sectioned, use round ball diamonds (BR-31, BR-41) to widen the cut and create access for crown removal instruments
  • Use SO-15B, SO-20, or SO-21 for finer detail work in narrow spaces
  • Insert a crown removal instrument (Christensen crown remover, WAMkey, etc.) through the cut and pry the crown segments apart

Post-Removal Refinement

  • After crown removal, use SO-20 and SO-21 round burs to clean any residual cement or ceramic fragments from the underlying tooth
  • Evaluate the tooth structure for damage from the sectioning procedure
  • Plan the next restorative step — new preparation, endodontic access, or direct restoration as indicated

Ceramic Margin Adjustment (Intraoral)

  • When adjusting an existing ceramic restoration in place, use CF-22B for chamfer margin work
  • Follow with CF-22F fine grit for final polishing of the adjusted margin
  • Use SO-20 and SO-21 for fine surface work and occlusal adjustments

Endodontic Access Through Ceramic Crowns

  • Use GEX-27 or GEX-28 to penetrate through the ceramic occlusal surface
  • Progress through the ceramic carefully with copious water spray
  • Switch to standard cavity burs once through the ceramic and into the underlying tooth structure
  • Maintain the access opening size to allow complete endodontic instrumentation

Cutting Technique for Ceramics

  • Operate at standard high-speed airotor RPM (typically 200,000-400,000 RPM)
  • Always use continuous water spray for cooling — ceramic materials can crack from thermal stress
  • Apply light intermittent pressure — let the diamond cut without forcing to prevent ceramic shattering
  • Move the bur in smooth strokes along the planned cutting line
  • Avoid deep penetration into the underlying tooth structure during ceramic sectioning

Post Use Care

  • Rinse each bur immediately after use to remove ceramic and tooth debris
  • Clean with a soft brush and surgical-grade detergent
  • Inspect each bur for diamond loss, coating damage, or wear before sterilization
  • Ceramic cutting is aggressive on burs — expect faster replacement cycles than routine preparation burs
  • Sterilize the complete kit via autoclave following the standard protocol
  • Return all burs to their designated positions in the stand for storage
