Description

Universal curettes are precision hand instruments for subgingival calculus removal and root surface debridement. This range features a semicircular blade tip positioned at 90° to the root surface, with both sides of each blade designed to cut – reducing instrument changes and improving efficiency during scaling and root planing procedures. The double-cutting edge adapts to mesial, distal, buccal, and lingual surfaces across all areas of the mouth. Five area-specific designs (SM11/12, SM11/12A, SM13/14, SM17/18, SM19/20) ensure complete arch coverage from anterior to posterior sextants. Suitable for initial periodontal debridement, deep pocket instrumentation, and supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) recall appointments. Compatible with standard autoclave sterilisation protocols. Directions for Use

Preparation

• Select the appropriate curette type based on the treatment area and tooth surface
• Inspect blade sharpness before use; resharpen if needed
• Sterilise instrument as per clinic protocol prior to patient contact

Operation

• Insert the blade subgingivally at a reduced angle; re-angulate to 90° against the root surface once at working depth
• Apply lateral pressure using overlapping vertical, horizontal, or oblique strokes to dislodge and remove calculus
• Adapt both cutting edges to mesial and distal surfaces by rotating the instrument handle
• Confirm root smoothness by tactile feedback using light exploratory strokes

Post-Use Care

• Rinse debris from the blade immediately after use
• Clean ultrasonically or manually before autoclaving
• Inspect blade edges after each sterilisation cycle; resharpen or retire worn instruments
