Directions for Use

Pre-Injection Preparation

• Sterilize the PAT instrument via autoclave before clinical use
• Prepare two anesthetic cartridges — one warmed cartridge without vasoconstrictor for the initial injection, and one with vasoconstrictor for the completion nerve block
• Warm the initial anesthetic to body temperature — cold anesthetic causes additional tissue discomfort during injection
• Explain the procedure briefly to the patient to build confidence in the comfortable experience

Instrument Positioning

• Select the appropriate end of the double-ended instrument for the target anterior palatine foramen (right or left)
• Position the C-shaped tip firmly on the palatal tissue at the anterior palatal foramen location
• Apply steady controlled pressure onto the palatal tissue until visible blanching occurs
• Maintain the pressure — this activates the tactile receptors that “close the gate” on pain transmission

Initial Anesthetic Injection

• While maintaining pressure with the C-shaped tip, gently insert the syringe needle through the center of the C-shape aperture into the palatal tissue
• Withdraw the PAT instrument once the needle is positioned correctly

• Remove the needle after the initial injection is complete

Anesthetic Distribution

• Apply gentle finger pressure to massage the anesthetic into the palatal tissue
• Wait approximately 30 seconds to allow initial anesthesia to take effect
• The patient should now feel minimal to no discomfort at the injection site

Completion Nerve Block

• Inject the second anesthetic containing vasoconstrictor at the same site to complete the nerve block
• This second injection is now performed in already-anesthetized tissue, eliminating the burning sensation typically associated with vasoconstrictor solutions
• Wait for full onset of anesthesia before proceeding with the planned dental procedure

Post Use Care

• Rinse the instrument immediately after use to remove any biological debris
• Clean the C-shaped tips carefully with a soft brush and surgical-grade detergent
• Rinse thoroughly with distilled water and inspect the working tips for damage
• Sterilize via autoclave following the standard surgical instrument protocol
• Store the sterilized instrument in a clean dry environment ready for the next case
