Directions for Use
- Preparation: Ensure the instrument is properly sterilized before use. Administer local anesthesia to the patient for a comfortable procedure.
- Positioning: Hold the periotome with a firm pen grasp, using the index finger as a fulcrum for controlled movement.
- Insertion: Gently insert the thin blade into the gingival sulcus along the mesial or distal surface of the tooth, keeping the blade parallel to the long axis of the root.
- Ligament Severance: Apply gentle apical pressure using careful rotational or push-pull movements to sever the periodontal ligament fibers progressively around the entire circumference of the tooth.
- Repeat: Work systematically around all surfaces — mesial, distal, buccal, and lingual — to ensure complete ligament detachment before applying extraction forceps.
- Extraction: Once the ligament is fully severed, proceed with atraumatic tooth removal using extraction forceps or a luxator with minimal force.
- Post-Extraction: Inspect the socket for intact bone walls. Proceed with socket preservation or implant placement as planned.
- Cleaning & Sterilization: After use, clean the instrument thoroughly and autoclave at up to 135°C before the next use.
