Directions for Use

• Chair and Equipment Setup: Ensure that the dental chair and equipment are properly set up for the dental procedure. This includes having the necessary instruments and accessories in place.
• Selection of the Appropriate Periotome: Examine the patient’s dental condition and the specific tooth or implant site where the periotome will be used. Select the appropriate periotome from the PTS3 set based on the procedure’s requirements and the instrument’s design.
• Local Anesthesia (if applicable): Administer local anesthesia to numb the area around the tooth or implant site, as needed, for patient comfort and pain control.
• Tooth or Implant Site Accessibility: Use dental mirrors, retractors, or other instruments as needed to improve visibility and access to the tooth or implant site.
• Periotome Placement: Hold the selected periotome with a firm but gentle grip on the hollow handle.Insert the periotome’s sharp, thin blade tip into the periodontal ligament space (PDL space) around the tooth or implant. The goal is to gently separate the periodontal ligament fibers from the tooth or implant surface.
• Controlled Pressure and Movement: Apply controlled and gentle pressure to the periotome, using rocking and slight rotational movements.The periotome’s sharp blade should help in cutting and detaching the periodontal ligament fibers with minimal trauma to surrounding tissues.
• Evaluate Tooth or Implant Mobility: Periodically assess the tooth or implant’s mobility with the periotome to determine if it has become sufficiently mobile or detached from its socket.
• Tooth Extraction or Implant Placement (if applicable): If the tooth is to be extracted, once it is sufficiently mobile, use dental extraction forceps to grasp and remove the tooth from the socket.If the periotome is used for dental implant placement, the separation of ligament fibers aids in creating space for implant insertion.
• Post-Procedure Care: After the procedure is completed, ensure that any remaining socket or implant site is clean and free of debris. Provide post-operative care instructions to the patient for proper healing and pain management.
• Sterilization and Maintenance: After use, clean the periotomes thoroughly and sterilize them following standard dental instrument sterilization protocols and the manufacturer’s recommendations for proper care and maintenance.
