Directions for Use
Preparation:
- Ensure the probe is sterilized and ready for use. Position the patient comfortably and provide adequate lighting
Insertion Technique:
- Gently insert the probe tip under the gingival margin into the sulcus, applying light pressure until resistance is felt at the junctional epithelium. Avoid excessive force to prevent tissue injury and inaccurate readings
Positioning:
- Keep the probe as parallel as possible to the long axis of the tooth. Use a stable finger rest (fulcrum) to control hand movement and minimize patient discomfort
Measurement:
- Use a walking motion: advance the probe 1–2 mm along the sulcus, re-inserting gently at each point to measure pocket depth accurately around the tooth. Record measurements at six sites per tooth—three on the buccal and three on the lingual surfaces
Reading and Recording:
- Note the depth using the probe’s millimeter markings. Healthy pockets are typically up to 3 mm; deeper readings may indicate periodontal disease
Aftercare:
- Remove the probe carefully, and repeat for all teeth as needed. Disinfect and sterilize the probe after use
