Key Highlights
Description
Waldent Finger Spreaders are specialized endodontic instruments designed to facilitate the lateral condensation of gutta percha during the obturation process of root canal treatment. These instruments feature a smooth surface that allows for efficient manipulation and placement of gutta percha within the root canal space. The primary purpose of Waldent Finger Spreaders is to create space within the root canal for the addition of accessory gutta percha points. This step ensures that the entire root canal space can be thoroughly filled and sealed, promoting successful treatment outcomes. The finger spreaders are typically made of high-quality stainless steel, providing durability and resistance to corrosion. When performing lateral condensation, a master cone coated with sealer is initially placed in the prepared root canal. The Waldent Finger Spreader is then used to spread the gutta percha laterally and compact it against the canal walls. This action effectively fills any irregularities or gaps, ensuring a tight and homogenous seal.
The smooth surface of the finger spreader facilitates controlled and precise manipulation, enabling dentists to navigate the intricate root canal anatomy with ease. The instruments are available in various sizes to accommodate different canal dimensions and curvatures, allowing for optimal adaptation and placement of gutta percha. Waldent Finger Spreaders are an essential tool in the field of endodontics, as they play a crucial role in achieving a thorough and successful root canal obturation. By enabling lateral condensation and providing space for accessory gutta percha points, these instruments contribute to the complete filling of the root canal space, promoting long-term treatment success and preserving the health of the tooth.

Directions for Use
- Selecting the GP Master Point: Choose a GP master point that corresponds with the size of the master apical file instrument. Ensure that the GP master point fits snugly at the working length in the apical region. If there is no resistance or “tug-back” felt upon removal, select a larger point or trim 1 mm off the tip until a proper fit is achieved. Notch the GP master point at the correct working length to guide its placement to the apical constriction. If unsure, take a radiograph to confirm the correct position of the GP master point.
- Coating the Canal Walls: Use a small file/gutta percha point to coat the walls of the canal with a suitable sealer. Ensure even and thorough coverage.
- Inserting the GP Master Point: Cover the GP master point with sealer and insert it into the canal. Place the notched end of the GP master point at the apical constriction, guiding its placement accurately. Ensure the GP master point is positioned properly by taking a radiograph if necessary.
- Lateral Condensation of GP: Use Waldent Finger Spreaders, to laterally condense the GP. Apply gentle pressure and move the spreader in a side-to-side or lateral spreading motion to spread and compact the GP against the canal walls. This creates space for the insertion of accessory GP points until the canal is fully filled.
- Trimming Excess GP: Cut off any excess GP using a hot instrument, such as a heated instrument or heated gutta percha cutter. Ensure a proper vertical length of GP remains in the canal for effective obturation.
- Vertical Packing of GP: Use a cold plugger to pack the remaining GP vertically into the canal. Apply gentle pressure to ensure proper adaptation and compaction of the GP.
- Evaluate and Confirm: Assess the quality and density of the GP obturation by taking a post-obturation radiograph to confirm proper filling of the root canal. Make any necessary adjustments or corrections if required.
