Description

Chlorhexidine is used in Endodontics as an irrigating substance or intracanal medicament, as it possesses a wide range of antimicrobial activity, substantivity (residual antimicrobial activity), lower cytotoxicity.

Directions for Use

• Preparation:

  • Ensure that you have the appropriate sterile equipment, including syringes and irrigation needles.
  • Verify that the 2% Chlorhexidine gluconate solution is within its expiration date and properly stored.

• Accessing the Root Canal:

  • Perform endodontic access to the pulp chamber as per standard procedures.

• Irrigation Process:

  • Fill a sterile syringe with the 2% Chlorhexidine gluconate solution.
  • Using a suitable irrigation needle, gently introduce the solution into the canal system.

• Irrigation Technique:

  • Use a back-and-forth motion to ensure thorough contact with the canal walls.
  • Irrigate for an adequate duration (typically 1-3 minutes), depending on clinical judgment and the extent of contamination.

• Flushing:

  • After irrigation, use sterile saline or distilled water to flush the canal, removing any debris and residual solution.

• Final Rinse:

  • Optionally, perform a final rinse with additional 2% Chlorhexidine if indicated for enhanced disinfection.

• Drying:

  • Carefully dry the canal with absorbent points before proceeding with obturation or further treatment.

• Disposal:

  • Dispose of any used syringes and needles in accordance with local regulations for biohazard waste.
