Directions for Use

Daily Testing: Perform the Bowie-Dick test daily before using the sterilizer, and after any sterilizer repair or maintenance.

Prepare the Test Pack:

• Gather freshly laundered, but not ironed, absorbent surgical towels.
• Construct a test pack by folding the towels to a size of at least 230 mm x 300 mm on each side with a height of 250-280 mm.
• Place a single Riverside Bowie Dick Test Sheet in the center of the test pack.

Seal the Test Pack:

• Secure the towels together using self-adhesive tape, making sure not to overtighten the package.

Positioning:

• Place the prepared test pack horizontally on the lower shelf of an empty vacuum-assisted steam sterilizer.

Run the Sterilizer Cycle:

• Set the sterilizer to run the Bowie-Dick cycle for 3.5 minutes at 134ºC or 4 minutes at 132ºC.

Examine the Test Sheet:

• After the cycle completes, remove the test sheet from the pack.
• Inspect the sheet for a uniform color change from yellow to dark brown or black.
• Any lighter regions on the sheet indicate potential issues with air removal or steam penetration.
