Intra Oral Elastics are rubber bands frequently used in the field of orthodontics to correct different types of malocclusions. The longevity of the elastic wear may vary from two weeks to several months. The elastic wear can be worn from 12 to 23 hours a day, either during the night or throughout the day depending on the requirements for each malocclusion. 

Elastic wear is recommend to be used in a rectangular wire to minimize side effects. Elastic wear depends on the compliance of the patient.

Penta Ortho Intra Oral Elastics are manufactured from the finest surgical grade natural latex rubber to ensure reliable force delivery.Intraoral elastics are used to produce forces for correcting different type of malocclusion.

Light Force – 2 Oz (60gm) & Medium Force – 3.5 Oz (100gm)

• Size – 1/8″ / 3.2mm indicates the diameter of the inner lumen size of the elastic without it being stretched.
• Force – It is given on ounces or grams. 4.5oz / 126g indicate the force delivered if the elastic is stretched 3 x its size.

INDICATION

• To reinforce anchorage in a case where an extraction has been done.
• To allow the maxillary incisors to move inwards.
• To correct midline deviation and allow buccal movement of backward-tipped lower incisors.

Directions for Use

• Preparation: Ensure that the work area and all instruments are clean and sterile. Check the pack for any damaged elastics before use.

• Selection: Choose the appropriate size and strength of elastics (light or medium) based on the treatment plan and patient requirements.

• Placement:

  • Carefully remove the selected elastic from the pack using clean hands or tweezers to avoid contamination.
  • Attach the elastic to the designated hooks or brackets on the orthodontic appliance, following the orthodontist’s instructions for the correct placement.

• Adjustment: Ensure the elastic is securely in place and that it is providing the intended force without excessive tension.

• Monitoring: Instruct the patient to monitor the elastics for any wear or stretching. Elastics should be replaced as directed, typically every 24 to 48 hours, or as advised by the orthodontist.

• Removal: To remove, gently detach the elastic from the hooks or brackets. Dispose of used elastics according to local waste disposal guidelines.

• Patient Instructions: Educate the patient on the importance of wearing the elastics as prescribed to ensure effective treatment outcomes.
