The Ultradent Opalescence PF Regular Patient Kit is a dentist-supplied and supervised tooth whitening system designed to effectively lighten the internal colors of teeth. The whitening agents in this kit are clear, flavored, high-viscosity, and sticky gels that contain peroxide. The peroxide content is available in two concentrations: 15% carbamide peroxide equivalent and 20% carbamide peroxide equivalent gels.
Both the 15% and 20% carbamide peroxide gels work as strong oxidizing agents to bleach teeth by penetrating the enamel and dentin and oxidizing the offending stains within the tooth. However, the main difference between the two concentrations lies in their strength and effectiveness.
The 15% carbamide peroxide gel is recommended for individuals with mild to moderate tooth discoloration. It offers a balanced approach to whitening, being effective in most cases of common teeth stains such as surface stains caused by food, beverages, or tobacco. On the other hand, the 20% carbamide peroxide gel is a more potent option suitable for individuals with moderate to severe tooth discoloration. This higher concentration is particularly effective for tougher stains, such as those caused by tetracycline, adult monocycline, or brown fluorosis. Additionally, stains that occur within the dentin, which require more time to oxidize, may benefit from the stronger 20% gel.
Both the 15% and 20% carbamide peroxide gels in the Opalescence PF Regular Patient Kit contain potassium nitrate and sodium fluoride. These ingredients help in reducing tooth sensitivity during the whitening process and provide added benefits for tooth health. The sustained-release action and adhesive properties of the Opalescence whitening products ensure that the gel remains in place during the treatment, maximizing its effectiveness. Directions for Use
Opalescence PF Patient Instructions:
Express one continuous bead of gel approximately halfway up the facial side of the tray from molar to molar. This should use about 1/2 to 1/3 of a syringe per tray.
Insert the tray in your mouth and lightly tap it to adapt the sides to your teeth. Wear time depends on which concentration of Opalescence you use.
- Opalescence PF 20%: 2–4 hours
If you experience any significant sensitivity, stop your treatment and talk to your dentist.
Remove tray and use a finger or soft toothbrush to clean any excess gel off your teeth. Rinse your mouth twice being sure not to swallow rinsed gel.
Clean tray with soft brush and cool tap water. Store tray in the case that came with your kit.
