Meril Filasilk #3-0 Black Braided Silk Suture Reel is a non-absorbable, needle-less surgical suture supplied as a 25-metre spool for use in dental and oral surgical procedures. Made from tightly braided natural silk filaments (Bombyx mori), it delivers the excellent handling, pliability and knot security silk is known for, letting you cut precise working lengths on demand for ligation, tying off, and securing drains or dressings. A surface coating reduces capillarity and tissue drag for smoother passage and less trauma. The black colour gives high contrast against tissue for accurate placement and easy removal. As a reel format, it is economical for high-volume tying and lets you load your own reusable/eyed needle when needed. Commonly used in periodontal surgery, mucogingival grafting, implant soft-tissue management and extraction-site closures. Being non-absorbable, it provides reliable long-term approximation and is removed once healing is adequate.

Directions for Use

Preparation

• Clean and prepare the surgical site with aseptic technique.
• Open the sterile reel pack; handle only with sterile gloves/instruments.
• Draw out the required length and cut; load onto a sterile eyed/reusable needle if a needled pass is needed.

Operation

• Pass the thread through tissue with minimal force to limit trauma.
• Tie secure surgical knots (silk holds knots well — standard square/surgeon’s throws are sufficient).
• For ligation, encircle and tie off the vessel/structure; trim excess.

Post-Use Care

• Inspect closure for alignment and knot security.
• Re-seal the reel pack to protect remaining sterile thread if lot allows; store dry.
• Non-absorbable — schedule suture removal by a professional once healing is adequate.
