Description

The Julldent Flexible Periodontal Ligament Displacer (PLD Tool) is a specialised extraction instrument built around a thin, flexible blade that enters the PDL space and severs the ligament fibres anchoring the tooth to the socket. By releasing the periodontal attachment before luxation, it significantly reduces the extraction force required and lowers the risk of buccal plate fracture. The tool is particularly useful for retrieving root tips, extracting endodontically treated brittle teeth, and in immediate implant cases where buccal bone preservation is critical. The curved, bendable blade adapts to root morphology and cuts efficiently along the root periphery, making root tip removal easier. It is designed strictly for vertical motion, ensuring safe and controlled ligament release. Available in two variants — PLD Tool with Handle (5.5 inch) for a full pen-grasp hold and PLD Manual Knob (2.5 inch) for compact, controlled short-stroke work.

Directions for Use

Preparation

• Sterilize the instrument and select the Handle or Manual Knob variant as per grip preference
• Plan entry points mesially and distally, not buccally, to avoid gingival delamination

Operation

• Insert the blade into the PDL space using vertical in-and-out motion only
• Fulcrum the third finger on the back of the blade for stability and guidance
• Do not apply lateral force, as it may fracture the blade
• Once inside the PDL, extend to buccal, lingual, or palatal aspects as needed; full 360° cutting is often unnecessary

Post Use Care

• Clean, inspect the blade for deformation, and autoclave; discard if blade integrity is compromised
