Directions for Use

• Prepare the Work Area: Ensure you have a well-lit, clean, and organized workspace. Adhere to infection control protocols, including hand hygiene and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Patient Preparation: Prepare the patient for the dental procedure, including administering local anesthesia if necessary, and ensure they are comfortable.
• Select the Instrument: Choose the GDC Periotome #4 (P4) from your sterilized dental instrument tray, confirming that it is in proper working condition.
• Position the Patient: Position the patient in the dental chair to provide clear access to the tooth requiring extraction or periodontal treatment.
• Visual Examination: Carefully examine the tooth and the surrounding tissues to assess the condition of the periodontal ligament and determine the need for extraction or treatment.
• Grip the Instrument: Hold the Periotome #4 (P4) in a comfortable and controlled grip. Ensure that your fingers are steady, and you have a clear view of the tooth and its surrounding area.
• Insert the Periotome: Gently insert the fine-tipped Periotome between the tooth and the alveolar bone, positioning it at the junction of the tooth’s root and the periodontal ligament.
• Sever the Periodontal Ligament: Using gentle, controlled motions, maneuver the Periotome to sever the periodontal ligament fibers that attach the tooth to the surrounding bone. Gradually work your way around the tooth, carefully loosening it from its socket.
• Monitor Progress: Periodically stop to assess your progress and ensure the tooth is gradually becoming mobile.
• Complete Extraction or Treatment: Once the tooth is sufficiently mobile for extraction, use dental forceps to gently and firmly grasp the tooth. Continue to apply minimal force while simultaneously rotating and lifting the tooth from its socket, ensuring atraumatic extraction.If using the Periotome for periodontal treatment, follow the treatment plan accordingly.
• Post-Procedure Care: Provide post-operative instructions and care to the patient, which may include instructions for pain management and proper wound care.
• Cleaning and Sterilization: After use, clean the Periotome thoroughly following standard sterilization and disinfection protocols, ensuring it is ready for reuse.
